The global law firm of K&L Gates LLP is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to join the Los Angeles office. The Litigation Paralegal assists lawyers, performing a variety of management functions and factual investigations.  The individual holding this position performs legal tasks that require significant independent judgment and may have the responsibility to supervise and train project assistants and paralegals. Candidates must be self-starters who possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Heavy database management and maintenance.
  • Analysis and preparation of pleadings, documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Efiling experience in state and federal courts and service of documents.
  • Maintaining trial exhibits lists
  • Motion practice, specifically motions for summary judgment.
  • Preparation of trial and hearing notebooks, depositions exhibits, subpoenas, orders and other materials.
  • Responsible for serving as a resource person regarding court rules and document requirements.
  • All aspects of asbestos case management including, but not limited to, all phases of the discovery process, tracking and communicating case related dates/deadlines and information, and trial preparation.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented, motivated, creative, and capable of managing multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines in a demanding, but rewarding, environment.
  • Strong familiarity with California and federal courts.
  • Trial experience.
  • A strong team player, as well as the ability to work on independent projects.
  • The ability to adapt to and embrace change; work independently with minimal supervision; and work under strict deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, exercising sound judgment, demonstrating good time-management and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to providing excellent client service, and effectively interacting with clients as well as staff at all levels.
  • The flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, required.  Trial Director and Case Notebook experience a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must.
  • Prior paralegal experience in a litigation environment, including experience with claim intake and case management skills, is highly desired.
