Job Description

At K&L Gates, we are looking for smart, imaginative and hard-working people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and ideas to join us.  Perhaps our search for talented visionaries and your search for important and impactful work lead to the same place.

The global law firm of K&L Gates seeks to hire a litigation associate to join their Washington, DC office’s regulated electric power practice. Our regulated electric power practice encompasses many aspects of the regulation of the electric power industry, with a primary focus on the regulatory activities of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and state public utility commissions.  Frequent issues addressed in our practice include mergers and acquisitions, market power, market manipulation, formula and other transmission rates, transmission cost allocation, energy, capacity, and ancillary services markets, Regional Transmission Organization tariff and governance matters, generator development and interconnection, and administrative and appellate litigation involving all of the above.  Our regulated electric power practice is part of the K&L Gates comprehensive energy practice that encompasses more than 150 lawyers across the firm’s global platform working together to guide our clients through strategic decisions, policy initiatives, commercial transactions, project financing and development, regulatory proceedings and litigation.

The ideal candidate would have six to seven years of litigation experience specifically focused on the regulated electric power industry.  Experience in paper and trial-type hearings and settlements would be helpful.  A background in economics, accounting and/or finance would also be useful. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and writing skills, as well as a collegial and team-oriented approach toward problem-solving.

K&L Gates represents leading global corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals. Our practice is a robust full market practice — cutting edge, complex and dynamic, at once regional, national and international in scope.
