Responsible for developing and executing Firm policies and procedures relating to risk assessment and conflicts due diligence for new business intake. Strategically works to take advantage of emerging technology and identifies trends in the legal industry to stay ahead of potential new business intake issues, along with lawyer and client expectations. Works with the Office of General Counsel, Office Managing Partners and Practice Area Leaders to facilitate Firm growth, while minimizing the risk to Firm.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversee the Firm’s Conflicts and New Business Intake function including developing policies and procedures for the intake, conflict resolution and/or compliance processes
  • Manage the personnel and resources responsible for conflicts due diligence and risk assessment for new business intake at the Firm
  • Responsible for ensuring the team is properly staffed to handle the work queues within an acceptable turn-around time and is timely completed
  • Answer general and specific questions with regard to the new business intake and conflicts resolution processes and addressing all associated risk
  • Direct conflicts resolution and/or compliance processes, with the assistance of General Counsel as needed, including drafting all correspondence necessary to facilitate resolution as well as ensuring compliance and consistency to minimize risk to the Firm
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training new Conflicts Risk Assessment Lawyers to ensure a smooth transition into the Firm
  • Conducts staff meetings as well as one-on-one meetings with direct reports to encourage the exchange of ideas to best serve the department and build a collegial atmosphere
  • Abide by all policies, work procedures, instructions and confidentiality of all information

 

Additional Duties:

  • Review quality audits on conflicts requests to ensure staff is consistently meeting and adhering to risk standards
  • Analyze workflow trends and recommend changes/additions to staff, as needed
  • Oversee testing of newly developed processes, reports, workflows, etc. by participating in testing and provide relevant feedback to ensure seamless deployment
  • Recommend training and cross training for staff as needed
  • Assign workload distribution among the Conflicts and New Business Risk Assessment team
  • Lead department projects as needed

 

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Juris Doctorate required; management or human resources background
  • Significant experience in conflicts resolution and/or compliance at a large law firm
  • Thorough knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct relating to conflicts of interest
  • Ability to oversee multiple functions while leading and directing the staff
  • Ability to deal with stress associated with a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact with diverse personalities while maintaining a professional attitude
  • Ability to ensure a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all firm and client related information

Compensation Salary $124,630 - $199,406 / year

The compensation salary for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors.
