The global law firm of K&L Gates LLP seeks a Sr. Desktop Engineer to join its Pittsburgh office. The Sr. Desktop Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the enterprise desktop environment of the firm. Responsibilities include assisting in the engineering of the standard desktop platform, design and implementation of the desktop imaging solution via Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) product and system lifecycle management, application packaging, compatibility and deployment testing, hardware management and support using vendor provided tools. Additionally, this role is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving desktop/platform related issues and providing third level operational support. Candidates must be self-starters who possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service are strongly preferred. Key relationships Application Engineering, Desk Side Support, Global Service Desk as well as various other IT Groups; occasionally end users. • Assist in the development and maintenance of Windows OS images via Microsoft SCCM and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT); this includes BIOS setting and driver management for various hardware platforms
• Document processes and procedures for maintenance and support
• Provide third level support to help desk and other IT groups
• Evaluate, test and package application using Flexera Admin Studio, Microsoft App-V, MSIX, scripting and/or other industry standard tools for the enterprise workstation
• Assist with software distribution, operating system deployment, and patch management to enterprise workstations/laptops via SCCM
• Assist with troubleshooting of applications as it relates to application packaging on physical or virtual machines
• Develop plans for implementation of technical infrastructure projects
• Develop and maintain enterprise Group Policy Objects (GPO) for the enterprise desktop environment, ensuring security standard are met
• Provide proactive maintenance steps for the desktop environment
• Conduct QA Testing for software and patch testing
• Analyze, diagnose and resolve complex desktop end user problems and suggest corrective solutions
• Prepare, maintain and uphold logging and reporting procedures for all desktop operations
• Ensure adherence to the firms change management procedures
• Remain current on industry developments, best practices, and recommendations by communicating with peers, vendors, and industry news
• Travel – up to 15% travel, based on project needs, domestic and international
• Rotating on-call for priority escalation
• Technical knowledge and experience with Microsoft SCCM with deployment operating systems, applications, patch management, and desired configurations
• Strong knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, including registry and file management
• Working knowledge and experience with various Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory, NTFS, Windows 7/8.x/10
• Knowledge and experience with Flexera Admin Studio, or similar packaging tools.
• Understanding of networking concepts and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc
• General knowledge and understanding of ITSM/ITIL principles (certification not required)
• Knowledge and experience with a variety of scripting languages such as PowerShell, batch files, VBScript
• Experience with troubleshooting and enabling configuration management with Group Policy Objects
• Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to communicate effectively and interact with diverse personalities as part of a multi-cultural, global organization
• Requires good judgement to define and accomplish goals while performing a variety of complicated tasks and leading/directing the work of others
• Must have strong organization and multi-tasking skills in order to meet required deadlines in a fast packed work environment
