We are seeking a Market Development Specialist (MDS) to join the K&L Gates Asset Management & Investment Funds (AMIF) Client Growth team and be based in the Boston, Chicago or Washington DC office.

Working under the direction of the Senior Market Development Manager, MDS will support business development programs and initiatives for the firmwide, global AMIF practice area. The MDS will have significant interaction with other members of the Client Growth team, lawyers, practice managers, and firm administration. Successful candidates will possess superior written and oral communications skills, project management abilities and will be able to implement strategic directives and coordinate marketing functions. The MDS will see projects through from concept to delivery, sometimes with limited or no oversight from a manager. 

Candidates must be self-starters who possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service are critical. Experience with related practice areas strongly preferred.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Assist the AMIF practice, including its sub-groups (Areas of Focus) and individual lawyers with development and implementation of business and client development projects and provide general client growth support. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • For complex projects, campaigns, and events, lead engagement and coordination among Centers of Excellence (COE) and support teams including RFPs, events, sponsorships, directory submissions, league tables and other market-facing opportunities 
  • Assist Pitch & Proposal COE with creating proposal content, preparing RFP and pitch responses, creating presentations, and maintaining practice qualifications for new business
  • Assist with market research to maintain a strong knowledge of assigned practice/industry groups, including business trends and competitive landscape for legal services
  • With regular cadence, collaborate with Brand Marketing and Communications to review market-facing materials to ensure they contain the most relevant information for clients and prospects
  • Collaborate with Brand Marketing and Communications on external promotion e.g., social media posts, website posting, and collateral production (e.g. newsletters, blogs)
  • Serve as key contact for large-scale nationwide and global practice event sponsorships and industry associations, assessing involvement to ensure full use of benefits and relationships, reviewing on an annual basis
  • Undertake other projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, marketing or communications with 5 to 7 years of experience in a law firm (preferred) or professional services organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to write and produce compelling proposals, collateral, research reports and client-facing presentation materials
  • Strong people skills with demonstrated service orientation
  • High level of professional maturity and confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet research tools essential
  • Knowledge of CRM software is a plus
  • Demonstrated good judgment, decision-making, and follow-through capabilities
  • Persistence coupled with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and planning skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects and meet deadlines
  • Outstanding attention to detail, flexibility to work outside of regular business hours as needed, and creativity
  • Collaborator who is also self-motivated and can work independently with minimum supervision

ADDITIONAL ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
• Effectively manages and communicates confidential issues.
• This job operates in an office setting and is largely sedentary, requiring the routine use of a computer and other standard office equipment. The ability to open file cabinets, lift files, bend and stand on a stool may also be required.

Compensation Salary $82,000 - $154,500 / year

The compensation salary for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors.
