The global law firm of K&L Gates is seeking a Manager of Public Relations & Media to join the Washington, DC, office. Responsible for working with department leadership to develop, manage, and execute strategic media and public relations activities for the firm, including press releases, interview opportunities, and bylined articles, among others.  Additional responsibilities include projects related to the firm’s internal and external communications activities, including the firm’s intranet, electronic communications, collateral, website and social media, leadership communication, media reporting, and other varied activities.  The Media & PR Manager is also involved in the preparation of submissions for various awards, rankings, and lists, and may be tasked with the support of dedicated practice areas and/or geographies. Candidates must be self-starters who possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service are strongly preferred.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Associate Director of PR & Communications, Director of Marketing, Marketing and Business Development teams, lawyers, other firm staff and leaders, members of media, public, and vendors

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Implement public relations and communications plans for practices, geographies, and other firmwide initiatives
• Draft and distribute press releases and other pitch materials
• Identify and facilitate opportunities for article placements, interviews, and other activities in appropriate venues
• Cultivate relationships with key reporters and identify and facilitate relationship-building opportunities for K&L Gates lawyers
• Involvement in firm’s digital communications efforts, including social media
• Field and coordinate/direct press inquiries
• Keep abreast of technological changes impacting media and public relations
• Develop and maintain media lists
• Assist in the development of content for various firm brochures and advertisements
• Assist in coordinating practice submissions for directory and publication rankings and lists
• Conduct other related activities as directed, including research, media coverage reports, survey and ranking submissions, and maintenance of media-oriented content on the K&L Gates website
• Coordinate with firm’s outside public relations agency on outreach efforts
• Participate in other writing and communications projects as directed

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED
• Bachelor’s degree in English, communication, marketing, or equivalent
• Equivalent of 6–8 years of previous communications or marketing experience
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and daily deadlines
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail and knowledge of AP Style
• Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and use discretion with sensitive information
• High level of confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients at all levels
• Ability to capitalize on trends in the global marketplace to build relevancies for firmwide media relations/placements
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as CRM software
• Familiarity with media research tools such as Lexis, Westlaw, Cision, etc.
• Experience in professional services or B2B media relations a plus
• Ability to direct and supervise daily activities of 2–3 individuals

• Communicate and interact effectively with employees and/or other clients while possessing a strong team orientation
• Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
• Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines
• Effectively manage and communicate confidential issues
