The global law firm of K&L Gates LLP is seeking a Network Engineer to join the firm’s network engineering team. The Network Engineer position is part of the team responsible for the design, implementation and operational support of network connectivity and project initiatives involving the K&L Gates' global network. Network Engineers help provide technical leadership to the firm and mentorship to members of the IS Operations teams.  Network Engineers ensure stability, perform best practices engineering and that detailed troubleshooting disciplines are applied to firm systems.  Candidates can expect a varied workload across multiple technologies in an environment that promotes collaboration and innovation to resolve incidents and project requirements.

The Network Engineer position encompasses responsibility for activities, including but not limited to wide area network connectivity technologies, network design, routing techniques and protocols, Network Firewalls (ASA), Remote Access VPN (AnyConnect) and Internet proxies, Quality of Service and traffic prioritization, IP address administration, LAN / WAN hardware, routers, switches and related technologies.

Technical responsibility extends to all offices of the firm and may require travel to any or all offices. Candidates must be a team player with the ability to manage projects, demonstrate excellent communication skills and possess the ability to manage a multitude of assignments independently. Candidates must be flexible self-starters who possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent troubleshooting, communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service are strongly preferred.

Essential Duties:

• Participate in the design, implement and ensure that systems achieve 100% uptime 24/7/365  operational availability

• Fully resolve problems with firm systems and technologies

• Participate in assessing risks and impacts arising from a business disruption and make decisions and determine actions independently and expediently to eliminate those risks and ensure the continuity of business.

• Understanding of firm and industry best practices and business requirements in order to gather data for analysis by conducting interview and independent research

• Participate in analyzing, planning, testing, and implementation of the Network Security and network connectivity

• Act as technical project manager for assigned projects and responsible for project related communications to stakeholders

• Participate in making decisions and determining actions independently and expediently to eliminate risks and ensure the continuity of business.

• Actively pursuing new technologies to improve effectiveness and efficiency of firm systems

• Performing root cause analysis on systems issues and determine recommended solutions to resolve problems.

• Determine and decide when to escalate problems to vendors and ensuring resolution and reporting of resolution to stakeholders.

• Design, implement, test and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery solutions, processes and procedures.

• Maintaining documentation of network, processes, procedures, troubleshooting guides and change management logs.

• Flexible to work outside of normal business hours as required.

Core Systems Knowledge Requirements:

• Cisco router, switching and wireless hardware technologies

• Firewall (Cisco and NG firewalls), Internet – Multicarrier & redundancy)

• Client and site to site VPN

• Internet Connectivity

• WAN Routing

• Network trouble shooting tools  / Application tools (Sniffer, WireShark, SolarWinds)

• General Network understanding (OSI Model, IP schema, Video, Cabling, DHCP)

Other Desired Skills:

• Wide Area Network transports including MPLS

• SDWAN

• Proxy Servers

• Enterprise class routing protocols BGP, OSPF

• Cisco ACI

• Load Balancing

• Converged Networks carrying voice, video and data

• Traffic prioritization, including Class of Service and QoS

• Knowledge of WAN/LAN traffic requirements for a MS Windows based applications environment

• Business continuity and disaster recovery disciplines

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

• Experience operating converged enterprise networks in a large, multi-office environment.  Typically acquired through 3 or more years of experience.

• Demonstrable troubleshooting abilities

• Strong understanding of technical networking

• Strong planning and analysis skills

• Strong documentation skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

• Product and/or Industry certifications

Working Conditions:

Additional hours may be required during periods of heavy workload.  Flexibility is required in the daily work schedule to accommodate lawyer and general Firm requirements.
