The Seattle office of K&L Gates LLP has an immediate opening for a Legal Practice Assistant to join their Shared Services Support Team.  The Shared Services Support Team is a working group of highly skilled practice assistants whose primary focus is the support of a larger number of lawyers and paralegals.  Team Practice Assistants offer administrative and legal assistant experience in order to provide the highest level of legal support services to our lawyers in an effort to support firm clients as seamlessly as possible.  Strong knowledge of litigation and corporate practice tasks is critical, including researching court rules, drafting simple pleadings, and finalizing/completing electronic and paper court filings.

The Shared Services Team assistant requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, advanced word processing proficiency, and an understanding of how to work within a team.

Daily Duties Include:

  • Create practice group documents (e.g., letters, pleadings, agreements)
  • Creating and editing documents in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Adobe
  • PDF to Word conversions
  • Document comparisons
  • Table of Contents/Authorities
  • Spreadsheet formatting
  • Litigation and transactional tasks
  • Proofreading
  • Contribute to the team in terms of ideas and feedback
  • Use initiative to handle ad hoc tasks

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  • Knowledge of Litigation practice area is required
  • Exposure to multiple practice areas is a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Adobe
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong proofreading, English composition, and editing skills
  • Organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision making
  • Ability to coordinate the production of accurate legal documents
  • Desire to work in a team environment with a focus on excellent customer service
  • Flexible and reliable
  • Maintain a positive, high-energy attitude
  • Demonstrate ability to meet obligations with confidentiality, integrity, and sensitivity

Experience Required:

  • 3 to 5 years of legal assistant experience in a legal or professional services environment
