The international law firm of K&L Gates is seeking an International Trade Analyst to be based in our Washington, D.C. office. The firm has one of the most prominent trade practices in Washington, D.C.

The Policy & Regulatory Practice Area’s International Trade, Investment Controls, and National Security practice group advises our clients on our country’s international trade law. The group is looking to add a key team member. The ideal candidate will have existing policy experience to help our clients implement and adhere to existing export control regulation and trade policies. Additional experience navigating the CFIUS process and national security issues involving investments and cross-border transactions is a plus. 

The successful candidate is an intellectually curious person who has the ability to distill and communicate about complex issues, thrives in a high-paced environment, and will have as many of these attributes as possible: 

  • Direct working experience in export controls, economic sanctions, trade remedies, customs and tariffs, and related areas of national security and international trade laws
  • Experience and knowledge of CFIUS process and issues companies may encounter
  • Significant experience and/or interest directly with trade policy preferred.
  • A graduate degree (MPP or MBA) is preferred but not required. 
  • Strong research, analytical, evaluative, and constructive thinking skills, particularly the ability to distill complex issues. 
  • Excellent communications skills both oral and written, including in an advocacy context. 
  • Intense focus on project management and coordination skills, with ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple projects on tight timeframes while being thorough and detail-oriented. 
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others in the firm, including the ability to manage up and down.
  • Has initiative by being proactive, forward-leaning, and highly responsive;
  • Strong orientation toward creating solutions that demonstrate great listening, judgment, resourcefulness, and timeliness.
  • Strong commitment to delivering exceptional client service.

Base Compensation $150,000 - $315,000 / year
