We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join the Pittsburgh office. The candidate will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation/maintenance of systems related to the firm’s Server, Storage and Cloud infrastructure. Candidates must be self-starters who possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service are strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide second & third level support to Global Service Desk and other IT groups.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks after given direction from leadership.
  • Assess risks and impacts arising from a business disruption and make decisions and determine actions independently and expediently to eliminate those risks and ensure the continuity of business.
  • Research and application of industry best practices that will benefit the Firm’s business requirements and provide improved operational efficiencies.
  • Implementation of hardware and software systems in accordance with documented standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Ensure that systems achieve maximum uptime and operational availability.
  • Actively pursuing new technologies to improve effectiveness and efficiency of firm systems.
  • Proactively perform daily system monitoring by verifying the availability of all server hardware, resources, and key processes.
  • Proactively look for issues in the server environment by reviewing system logs, monitoring scheduled jobs (i.e. backups), and developing scripts to provide automated alerting for critical processes.
  • Perform ongoing proactive performance tuning and resource optimization as required.
  • Act as a resource to support all technical projects assigned by the Technical Services group.
  • Perform ongoing proactive performance tuning and resource optimization as required.
  • Determine and decide when to escalate problems to vendors and ensuring resolution and reporting of resolution to stakeholders.
  • Test and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery solutions, processes and procedures as requested.
  • Maintaining documentation of processes, procedures, troubleshooting guides and change management logs.
  • Flexible to work outside of normal business hours as required.
  • Ability to be on-call to support 24/7 global server/storage infrastructure and work flexible hours as necessary. 

 

Function Specific Systems Knowledge Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft related technologies: Windows Server 2008 - 2019, Exchange, SQL, SharePoint
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Server Hardware: Cisco UCS and Dell Servers
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Virtualization technologies: VMware, Citrix, and Hyper-V
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Storage Technologies: iSCSI and NFS
  • HCI technologies
  • Configuration Management and Monitoring tools (Microsoft SCCM/SCOM, vRealize Operations Manager)
  • Active Directory (Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS…)
  • Scripting and Automation Knowledge
  • General Network Knowledge (IP subnetting, VLANs, Cabling)
  • LAN/WAN Routing
  • Clustering technologies
  • Linux distributions
  • Cloud Technologies (Azure)
  • Disaster Recovery

 

EXPERIENCE SKILLS REQUIRED

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Product and/or Industry Certifications.
  • Demonstrable troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong understanding of technical networking.
  • Strong planning and analytical skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
