The global law firm of K&L Gates seeks to hire an associate to join their Washington, DC office’s natural gas and liquefied natural gas regulatory practice. Our regulated natural gas practice encompasses nearly all aspects of the regulation of the natural gas and LNG industry, with a primary focus on the regulatory activities of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy.  Frequent issues addressed in our practice include:

•    FERC Natural Gas Act Sections 3 and 7 proceedings for liquefied natural gas export facilities and interstate natural gas pipeline certificates;
•    Interstate natural gas, oil, and oil product pipelines’ operations and policies before FERC;
•    Natural gas trading operations, including NAESB agreements, interstate transportation capacity, and asset management arrangements;
•    Interstate natural gas pipeline capacity fundamentals, including open seasons, acquisition, transfer and disposition of transportation capacity, and verification of compliance with FERC regulations and policies;
•    Representation before FERC in applications for waivers of FERC’s capacity release regulations and policies;
•    Department of Energy regulations for imports and exports of natural gas; and
•    Council on Environmental Quality regulations related to implementation of NEPA.

Our natural gas and LNG regulatory practice is part of the highly regarded K&L Gates global energy practice that encompasses more than 150 lawyers across the firm’s platform working together to guide our clients through strategic decisions, policy initiatives, commercial transactions, project financing and development, regulatory proceedings and litigation.

The ideal candidate would have three to five years of experience practicing law, including at least three years of experience specifically focused on the regulated natural gas and LNG industry.   Additional prior experience in energy law, administrative law, or litigation would be helpful, but not required. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and writing skills, as well as a collegial and team-oriented approach toward strategic problem-solving.
