K&L Gates LLP is seeking an associate with five to eight years of experience to join our Seattle team that handles privacy and product counseling issues. Strong candidates will have experience with:

•Advising companies on US federal and state privacy laws (including CCPA, CPRA, VCDPA, COPPA, HIPAA,
•GLB, FERPA)
•Familiarity with international privacy regimes such as GDPR
•Conducting data mapping and performing privacy impact assessments
•Drafting and developing internal policies and procedures
•Drafting external privacy policies
•Drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and data provisions in commercial contracts
•Projects involving a wide-range of industries, technologies, products, and services
•Technical acumen to interact with IT teams and other technical experts

Experience in the following areas is preferred but not required:

•Privacy certifications such as CIPP, CIPM, CIPT, Privacy Law Specialist, or CISSP
•FTC deceptive practices
•Self-regulatory frameworks like IAB and DAA
•M&A diligence and support
•Data breach investigations and compliance

Candidates must have strong analytical, negotiation, and drafting skills as well as be capable of distilling complex issues/statutes in concise client communications. We also require excellent research and communication skills and the ability to mentor, train, and lead others.
