We are seeking an International Exchange Counsel to join the Washington, DC office. The Position requires a Master of Law and Japanese law degree. Must be licensed to practice law in Japan and New York or Washington, DC. Any suitable combination of experience of education, training, or experience is acceptable. Travel: Position requires 2-3 trips to Japan for 1-2 week for each trip. 5-6 trips within the US for 1-5 days each for conferences and client meetings in various locations. Monthly travel to New York, NY. Language Requirement: Must be fluent (reading, writing, and speaking) in Japanese. Experience: Must have 4 years of experience with Japanese financial services regulations dealing with international clients or related. Requires skills and experience to involve: 4 years of experience in US banking law dealing with US and international clients; Experience and knowledge of Japanese financial services regulations related to offering and structuring various investment products and services; Experience of representing international clients before Japanese regulatory agencies such as Financial Services Agency of Japan, Bank of Japan, Ministry of Finance and Finance Bureaus; Experience and knowledge of U.S. federal financial services regulations including U.S. federal banking laws; Experience of representing clients before U.S. federal financial services regulatory agencies; Experience of representing foreign investor clients on various investment opportunities and projects in the U.S. including investments in development projects such as building facilities or expansion of their operations in the U.S. Job duties: Interview clients and analyze their needs. Develop strategies to achieve the clients’ objectives. Conduct legal and factual research. Draft memorandum, correspondence, agreements, and filings with local, state and federal governmental agencies and courts in Japan and US. Represent clients before local, state and federal governmental agencies and courts. Advise Japanese clients on various aspects of America law. Advise American clients on various aspects of Japanese law.
